Scar Camouflage in O'Fallon, MO
What Is Para-Medical Tattooing, AKA Scar Camouflage?
Paramedical tattooing is a specialized field within the Permanent Tattooing/Cosmetic Tattooing industry that focuses on camouflaging scars, burns, stretch marks, and other skin issues. Paramedical tattooing can be used to camouflage scars from medical conditions such as scarring left from surgeries and skin grafts, 3D tattoos related to mastectomies, tummy tucks, facelifts, and pretty much any other surgery that leaves a mark.

two different methods for scar camouflage
Stretch Mark Camouflage vs. Inkless Stretch Mark Revision
With Stretch Mark Camouflage, we do a pigment color match and then tattoo that color directly onto the area. Inkless Stretch Mark Revision is a method of treating stretch mark scars with a specific serum prior to and instead of pigment. The serum combined with the needling triggers the body’s natural healing response to produce collagen and elastin, and ultimately make the stretch marks less noticeable.
Many times, we recommend combining both methods and doing an Inkless Stretch Mark Revision procedure before a camouflage procedure to ensure the best outcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does scar camouflage work?
We will evaluate the area of interest to determine if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. Your skin tone will be assessed and a custom pigment formula will be made that matches your skin. A patch test is highly recommended because everyone’s skin is different. When the skin heals, the color may be different from when the pigment was initially applied which is why we need a minimum of two sessions to make necessary adjustments. Note that the area we treat will be red, raised, and inflamed right after the procedure and will take a few days to subside. To help with the healing, you will be given a post-procedure aftercare document with details on how to take care of the area to ensure it remains clean and heals well. Depending on the area, we can use dry needling to soften scars and help the body activate and produce natural collagen to improve the overall appearance. We can also use micropigmentation to deposit pigment into the area, blending it with your natural skin tone so the scar is either no longer visible or less visible. It’s sort of like a permanent concealer that never washes off.
What types of scars can you camouflage?
Is Scar Camouflage painful?
Is there any downtime?
Since Scar Camouflage is a non-invasive procedure like a regular tattoo, there is little to no downtime, and most of our clients can resume work on the same day or the next day.
With that said, aftercare is extremely important, so it is essential that you follow the post-procedure protocol wherever you are to ensure good results. You should avoid touching the area for the best results and prevent any infection.
How long does the procedure take?
It varies depending on the area and size of the scar but on average, a session takes anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. We highly recommend that you schedule a consultation so that we may review the area in question and provide a more concrete time and cost. After the consultation, we recommend that you book a patch test session so that we can perform a patch test to make sure the area responds well to treatment.

Will ISR or Stretch mark Camouflage work on hyper-pigmented stretch marks?
Why is Collagen an important factor in treating stretch marks?
Stretch marks are essentially scars where the underlying layers of skin have basically given up and no longer produce collagen. Collagen is a protein that occurs naturally in the body and gives structure to the skin and strengthens the bones. With ISR and Stretch Mark Camouflaging we cause trauma to the area in question causing it to start producing collagen again.
What is Inkless Stretch Mark Revision?
ISR is a non-invasive skin treatment that helps the skin repair itself using a blend of serums and vitamins inserted just under the skin using tiny needles. Imagine a gentle tattoo procedure where the ink is replaced with serums to penetrate the skin and assist in the body’s natural healing capabilities. During the procedure, tiny needles are poked into the area of concern to trigger the body to produce collagen. We use products that encourage collagen & elastin production. The combination of the dry needling with the serum results in the skin becoming smoother and firmer and the reappearance of the natural skin tone.
